Boar Warrior pendant, a copy from the Vendel* period Torslunda (Sweden). It depicts a boar** helmet*** warrior with a spear and a sword. Originally used as one of the helmet plates.
Size: hight 45 mm, width 23 mm
Materials: made in a rich golden bronze.

In Swedish prehistory, the Vendel Period (550–790) comes between the Migration Period and the Viking Age. The migrations and upheaval in Central Europe had lessened somewhat, and two power regions had emerged in Europe: the Merovingian kingdom and the Slavic princedoms in Eastern Europe and the Balkans. A third power, the Catholic Church, had begun to expand its influence.
**In Viking mythology, the boar symbolizes protection and guidance. This is exemplified in the story of Hildisvíni from the Old Norse poem "Hyndluljóð," where the goddess Freyja rides a boar named Hildisvíni, who is actually her protégé Óttar in disguise, on a quest to discover Óttar's ancestry.
***Boar-themed helmets, were symbols of strength and protection in battle. The Hildisvíni helmet, associated with the warrior Áli, was a notable example, famous for being taken by the Swedish king Adils after a victorious battle.
